When did you start looking to the internet to help your career?
I started looking towards the internet during
2008 when I first got approached by a web design company to set
up http://www.sunilosman.com
I had already joined Facebook and had just a profile page, it
was after my website that I decided to put up a Fan Page as well.
The Fan Page is strictly for ‘fans’ and industry related
information.
I realized that my Agent can only do ‘so’
much, and that I would have to take exposure locally and internationally
into my own hands. So far so good. The internet has allowed me
to make contact with Industry related companies worldwide, and
I will never look back.
What is the most productive online resource you use?
This is a tough question. I have linked
my Facebook fan page status updates to Twitter, my website, WhosWhoSA,
YouTube, Linkdin, etc. I would say it is a tight battle between
Facebook and Twitter. Facebook and Twitter are great resources
for networking, and Facebook’s chat really allows networking
to take a new form. I have ensured that my demo reel is on my
fan page, YouTube as well as my website. But at the end of the
day, Facebook takes it as the most productive resource. I have
made more contacts through Twitter, but have got more bookings
through Facebook.
Have you learned any important lessons that you'd like to share?
A friend of mine tells me that I am
an example of the three P’s – Prioritise, Plan, Proactivity.
I have learnt that as a Freelancer, I am a walking, talking, sleeping
business. And to approach myself in a professional manner is very
important. I have also learnt that any exposure is good exposure.
And in this industry, networking, building relationships and being
able to deliver on what you say you can do is very important.
I have also learnt, that patience and passion pays off.
