What made you decide to use MySpace
to share your music? Stephen:
I originally hadn't intended to use MySpace to share my music.
I actually created an account to keep track of my teenage daughters.
But I found a lot of Nashville songwriters on MySpace and found
some of them would actually respond to comments and questions. Since
then I've been finding songwriters all over the country who inspire
me to keep writing.
Would
you ever get your own domain name with a website? Stephen:
I suppose I'd consider my own domain name and website someday
if I ever put together an actual album. When I do shows I get a
lot of requests for a CD but haven't produced more than a rough-cut
of a few songs. But most of my "fame" and popularity are
because of my other job as a news anchor. I'm not sure there would
be a great demand for my music beyond Detroit so I'm not sure a
website would help me out much.
With your experience as a TV news
anchor, have you thought of doing any webcasts online? Or even music
videos? Stephen: I do webscasts every
day for my TV station at wxyz.com (you can catch them between about
8pm and 1am weekdays). As far as music goes, because of my TV background
I am a visual person, when I write songs I usually start with the
visual impression. I am toying with the idea of putting video to
some of them and seeing what happens.
