Amie Barsky’s Yummy & Artsy Interview

Amie Barsky is an actress/producer that has been a part of OfficiallyPluggedin.com since the beginning of the site’s creation. She has some yummy and artsy projects she’s been working on, so I wanted to ask her some questions and share her answers with you…

You’ve been doing some things that don’t seem like work, but total fun & recently yummy! You mentioned that you shot a Breyers commercial where you got to eat Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream. So when and where did you film the commercial and were you the only person in it?

Amie: I filmed the Breyers commercial at the end of March on location at this amazing house in Los Angeles. It takes place on a sunny day and I am sharing some Breyers Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream with a talented young actress who plays my daughter.

How many takes did you end up having to do… because we know you loved every bite, um take!

Amie: Not as many takes as I would have liked too!!! There is a reason why it is called “The Magic of Hollywood”…..you know when you watch your favorite TV show or movie and each actor looks perfect and flawless because they have a make-up artist by their side and before each take they are touched up to look amazing, well production puts the same effort into the bowl of ice cream by hiring a “food stylist”. Each Chocolate chip and each chunk of cookie dough is precisely placed in the fake ice cream (which is really Crisco and some other gunk that they say you can eat but I don’t recommend it, not very tasty) They place the real ice cream for the actor to eat in the back of the bowl. If you look carefully you will see that we are scooping our ice cream from the back of our bowls. So as much as I would have liked to have chowed down a bowl for each take, it was very technical- but I did enjoy and savor every bite- and now I am totally hooked on it!

When will we see the commercial air on television and I’m guessing online too?

Amie: I was told that it’s a spring/summer spot, so keep your fingers crossed that it runs like crazy soon! That would be great if they play it on the internet too!

Do you have any photos from the shoot?

Amie: Unfortunately no

How can someone look into doing commercials like this?

Amie: The best way to book a national commercial campaign is by first getting a commercial agent. They will then send you out on auditions where you get to be your charming self…after that it is all up to fate!

You’ve recently been a part of James Owens’ SAVAGE BEAUTY art show, amongst some celebrity friends. The “Let the Good Times Roll” painting you posed for is one of my favorites. How did opening night go?

Amie: Opening night for Savage Beauty was a huge success. There was an amazing turnout and many of his paintings sold beforehand. Jim is extremely talented and has a very successful career ahead of him.

How many paintings have been created from sessions you did with James?

Amie: I am not sure of the exact number to be honest. We have done numerous photo sessions where he has taken countless photos. He sometimes uses a pose that I did but changes the face a bit so it doesn’t look like me. That’s fun because I get to see what I look like with blue eyes or blond hair!

You’ve just added a new section to your website and portfolio of talents; voice over for commercials and animation. Why is voice over an area of interest for you?

Amie: Glad you asked, I am so excited to be exploring the “voice over” media of acting. And despite the fact that everyone says “it’s so hard to get into, it’s so competitive”, I am going for it!!!! What have I got to loose. I have always loved doing animation/children’s voices- ask any of my friends- especially when I am hiking, we see birds, rabbits and all sorts of cute animals and beautiful things and it just comes out of me. Voice over is such a unique world; I get to be so creative because I am not influenced by what I look like physically. I get to use my imagination and create what each character looks like, sounds like, dresses like, nothing if off limits, it’s really wild.

Are there any other projects you are working on or want to share?

Amie: Although I can’t go into too many details…there a two feature films in development that I am very excited about right now. Keeps you eyes and ears open!
